Photo and Signature Resizer for Government Exam Forms
Most online exam forms reject a photo or signature that is even slightly outside the size limit. Here are the size limits by portal, the extra rules for SSC and UPSC, and tips that keep your files from being rejected.
- IBPS-style bank photo
- 200 x 230 px, 20 to 50 KB
- IBPS-style signature
- 140 x 60 px, 10 to 20 KB
- UPSC photo
- JPG, 20 to 200 KB (as reported)
- UPSC signature
- Signed 3 times, JPG 20 to 100 KB (as reported)
- SSC photo
- Captured live in the form; no upload
Uploading a photo (फोटो) and signature (हस्ताक्षर) is the step where many candidates get stuck. Every recruiter sets its own limits in kilobytes (KB) and pixels (px), and a file outside the range is either refused by the portal or, worse, accepted and later rejected. Use the resizer at the top of this page: pick a preset, add your image, and save the result. Then compare it with the table below and with the instructions in your own notice.
The table lists the size rules we found for major portals. Some come from an official notice; others are from guides summarising the instructions, and we say which is which. Recruiters can change their rules in any cycle, so the notice you are applying under always wins.
Photo and signature size table
| Portal | Photo | Signature | How sure |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBPS-style bank forms | 200 x 230 px (4.5 x 3.5 cm), 20 to 50 KB | 140 x 60 px, 10 to 20 KB, black ink, not in capitals | Official (IPPB notice using the same template) |
| UPSC (upsconline) | JPG, 20 to 200 KB, face about 75% of frame, white background; plus a live photo | JPG, 20 to 100 KB, 350 to 500 px, signed three times one below another in black ink | Reported by guides; check notice |
| SSC (ssc.gov.in) | Captured live by webcam or phone in the form; no upload | JPEG, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 x 2.0 cm | Live photo: news report (2024). Signature: reported; check notice |
| RRB (railways) | JPG, 50 to 100 KB, 320 x 240 px (35 x 45 mm), colour, face at least 50% | JPG, 30 to 50 KB, 140 x 60 px (50 x 20 mm), black ink, running hand | Reported by guides; check notice |
| UPSSSC PET 2025 | JPG, 50 to 100 KB, 3.5 x 4.5 cm | 30 to 50 KB, 3.5 x 1.5 cm | Reported; check notice |
Note on UPSC: some websites say the photo can be 20 to 300 KB. That is not supported by the instructions summarised in the guides we checked, which give 20 to 200 KB.
Extra uploads on bank forms
IBPS-style bank portals ask for two more files besides photo and signature, as shown in the IPPB notice:
- Left thumb impression: 240 x 240 px at 200 DPI, 20 to 50 KB.
- Handwritten declaration: 800 x 400 px at 200 DPI, 50 to 100 KB, written in English in black ink.
The declaration text in that notice reads: "I, (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required." Write it in your own handwriting, and scan it in good light. See our bank exam admit card page for later stages of bank exams.
SSC: why there is no photo upload
On the new SSC site, your photo is captured live through a webcam or phone camera inside the application module, according to news reports (February 2024). You cannot upload an old photo. For the live capture:
- Sit in front of a plain, light background.
- Keep the camera at eye level and your face fully visible.
- Do not wear a cap, mask or spectacles.
- Use even light from the front, not a bright window behind you.
You still upload a signature, reported as JPEG 10 to 20 KB. Exam pages such as SSC GD and SSC Stenographer track current SSC cycles.
How to resize, step by step
- Take a fresh photo against a plain light background, or scan your signature done in dark ink on white paper.
- Choose the preset in the resizer that matches your portal from the table above.
- Crop so that the face, or the signature, fills the frame as the rules ask. Do not stretch the image; crop instead.
- Name your files clearly, for example photo.jpg and sign.jpg, so you upload the right one. Our sarkari resume maker can help when an offline advert asks for a bio-data with a photo.
- Save and check the final file: its format (JPG or JPEG), its size in KB and its pixel size must all be inside your notice's limits.
If the portal still refuses the file, check whether it wants JPG only, and whether the size is just over the limit. Saving again at slightly lower quality usually brings the KB down.
Tips that prevent rejection
These are general good practices that apply to most forms:
- Background: plain white or light, with no patterns or shadows. UPSC asks for white.
- Face size: the face should fill most of the photo. UPSC guidance says about 75% of the frame; RRB guidance says at least 50%.
- Recent photo: RRB guidance says the photo should not be older than 2 months and warns that selfies may be rejected.
- Signature ink: sign with a dark (black) pen on plain white paper. Bank and RRB rules ask for black ink and a running hand, not capital letters.
- Same signature every time: sign the same way on the form, admit card and at the exam centre. Mismatches can cause trouble later.
- Keep copies of your printed photo; exams often ask for one or two passport photos on exam day.
Your photo is also matched with you at later stages: UPSC and RRB both use live photos, at the time of applying or at the exam centre. A clear, recent and honest photo is the safest choice. Our admit card guide covers what to carry on exam day, and the UPSC admit card page tracks UPSC e-admit cards.
Questions and answers
Signature 20 KB me kaise kare?
Use the signature preset in the resizer, crop tightly around your signature and save. If the file is still above 20 KB, save again at slightly lower quality. Bank-style forms want 10 to 20 KB at 140 x 60 px; SSC is reported as 10 to 20 KB.
What is the IBPS photo size?
On IBPS-style bank forms, as shown in an official IPPB notice using the same template, the photo is 200 x 230 pixels (4.5 x 3.5 cm) and 20 to 50 KB. The signature is 140 x 60 pixels and 10 to 20 KB, in black ink and not in capital letters.
UPSC photo size kitna hona chahiye?
Guides summarising UPSC instructions give the photo as JPG, 20 to 200 KB, with the face covering about 75% of the frame on a white background. Some sites say 20 to 300 KB, which is not supported. UPSC also takes a live photo, so check the current notice before uploading.
Why does UPSC ask for three signatures?
As summarised by guides for 2026, UPSC asks candidates to sign three times, one below another, in black ink on white paper, and upload it as one JPG of 20 to 100 KB, 350 to 500 pixels. Scan the whole block of three signatures together, not three separate images.
SSC form me photo upload kaise kare?
You do not upload one. On the new SSC site, the photo is captured live through a webcam or phone camera inside the application, according to news reports. Use a plain background, keep the camera at eye level, and do not wear a cap, mask or spectacles.
My photo is accepted by the portal. Can it still be rejected?
Yes. A portal checks only file type and size. Later, officials may reject a photo that is blurred, old, has a dark background or does not match you. RRB guidance, for example, says photos should not be older than 2 months. Use a clear, recent photo.
