A sarkari resume (सरकारी बायोडाटा) is different from a private-company CV. Government offices care about exact facts: your name as in your certificates, date of birth, qualifications with year and percentage, and experience with dates. Style matters much less than accuracy and the right order of fields.

Use the resume maker at the top of this page: fill in your details, check the preview, then print it or save it as a PDF. It does not send your details anywhere. Below we explain when you actually need a bio-data, what to include, and how to avoid the mistakes that cause rejections. We are an independent guide, not a government office.

There is no official government resume format

Many people search for the "official sarkari resume format". There is no single official government resume format. What matters is the recruitment you are applying to:

  • Online recruitments such as SSC, RRB, UPSC and IBPS do not need a resume. The online application form itself is your application. Do not upload a resume where the form does not ask for one.
  • Offline, contract and deputation adverts usually give their own proforma, called an Annexure or bio-data, or allow plain paper in that format.

So the rule is simple: if the advert gives an annexure format, always use the advert's format. A neat bio-data made in your own layout is useful only when the advert does not prescribe one, or to prepare all your facts in one place before you copy them into the annexure.

When you need a bio-data

You will most often need one for:

  • Offline Group C posts in defence units, Coast Guard and Air Force stations, advertised in Employment News (Rozgar Samachar).
  • Contract, consultant and deputation posts in ministries and their offices.
  • Posts where the advert says "apply on plain paper in the prescribed format".

For the full process of posting such forms, including envelope superscription and last dates, read our offline vacancy form guide.

What to include, field by field

Typical annexure and bio-data proformas use these fields. A public example is the bio-data proforma of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, linked below.

FieldHow to fill it well
Post applied forExact post name and advert number, as in the advert
PhotographRecent passport-size photo, pasted in the box
NameExactly as in your 10th certificate, in capital letters
Date of birthAs in the 10th certificate, in DD/MM/YYYY
Father's nameAs in your certificates
AddressCorrespondence and permanent address with PIN code
Phone and emailNumbers and email you will keep using for months
Educational qualificationsDegree or class, board or university, year of passing, percentage
ExperienceOffice, post, from and to dates, main duties
Additional informationTyping, computer, licences, NCC, sports, only if relevant to the post
DeclarationA short statement that the information is true
Date, place, signatureSigned in ink after printing

How to fill it for a government form

  1. Start with the advert. Note the post name, advert number and any fields the annexure lists. Add those fields even if they are not in a normal resume.
  2. Copy facts from your documents, not memory. Take name, date of birth and father's name from your 10th certificate, and marks from your marksheets.
  3. List education from highest to lowest, or in the order the proforma shows. Give the year and percentage for each.
  4. Write experience with exact dates (from and to) and the office name. Short duty lines are better than long paragraphs.
  5. Keep it to one or two pages. Offices read many forms; clear and short is better.
  6. Print, sign and date in ink, then paste the photo.

For online forms that ask for a scanned photo and signature, size them with our photo and signature resizer.

Stay safe. Government jobs are never sold. Ignore anyone who asks for money for selection, an appointment letter or a 'setting'. Check every notice on the official site of the commission or board; job links on social media can be fake.

Extra details for deputation and contract posts

If you are already a government employee applying on deputation, the advert usually asks for more. Common extras are your present post and pay level, and certificates such as APAR copies and vigilance clearance, which are sent through your employer rather than by you directly. Read the advert for the exact list and the channel through which the form must be forwarded.

For contract posts, experience is often the main selection factor, so list each job separately with dates and duties.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Using your own layout when the advert gives an annexure. Always use the advert's format.
  • Name or date of birth that does not match your certificates, even by one letter.
  • Leaving out percentages or years of passing.
  • Experience without dates, or overlapping dates that look wrong.
  • Unsigned or undated bio-data.
  • Adding a career objective, hobbies or a long summary that the proforma does not ask for.
  • Claiming anything you cannot prove with a document at verification.
  • Paying anyone who offers a special "approved" resume format. No such paid format exists; read our fake job alert guide.

Once your bio-data is ready, check current openings that match your qualification on our 10th pass jobs and 12th pass jobs pages. Keep a printed copy and a PDF copy, and update them each time you finish a course or change jobs.

Questions and answers

Sarkari naukri ke liye resume format kya hai?

There is no single official government resume format. Online recruitments like SSC, RRB, UPSC and IBPS need no resume because the online form is the application. Offline, contract and deputation adverts usually give their own annexure or bio-data proforma, and you should always use that format when it is given.

Bio-data aur resume me kya fark hai?

In government hiring, a bio-data is a fact sheet in a set order: post applied for, photo, personal details, education with year and percentage, experience with dates, declaration and signature. A private-company resume focuses more on skills and achievements. For sarkari forms, accuracy and the advert's field order matter most.

Do I need a resume for SSC or railway jobs?

No. SSC, RRB, UPSC and IBPS recruitments are online, and the online application form is your application. You do not upload a resume there. You will need scanned or live photos, a signature and correct details, so keep your certificates ready before you start the form.

Resume for offline form me kya likhe?

Follow the advert's annexure. Typical fields are post applied for, photo, name, date of birth, father's name, addresses, phone, email, qualifications with board or university, year and percentage, experience with office, post, dates and duties, additional information, declaration, date and signature. Copy facts exactly from your certificates.

Should my bio-data have a photo and signature?

Most annexure proformas have a photo box and a signature line. Paste a recent passport-size photo where shown, and sign and date the bio-data in ink after printing. If the advert asks you to self-attest the photo or copies, do that too. An unsigned bio-data can be rejected.

Can I use the same bio-data for every job?

You can keep one master copy with all your details, but adjust it for each advert. Change the post name and advert number, follow that advert's field order, and add any extra fields it lists, such as pay level for deputation posts. Never reuse a signed copy with an old date.
