Matric (10th) pass is enough for some of India's biggest recruitments: SSC GD, SSC MTS, RRB Group D, India Post GDS and Army Agniveer. Here are their age limits, selection steps and current status.

A 10th pass government job (10वीं पास सरकारी नौकरी, also called matric pass sarkari naukri) is a central or state post where the minimum qualification is Class 10. The biggest recurring ones are run by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB), India Post and the armed forces. Each has its own age limit, cut-off date for age and selection method.

The RRB Group D row comes from an official corrigendum. The other rows are according to news reports (2025 to 2026), so confirm them in the official notice of the cycle you apply for.
SSC GD Constable: biggest 10th pass recruitment
According to news reports (December 2025), SSC GD 2026 had 25,487 posts in the CAPFs, SSF and Assam Rifles (Rifleman). Applications closed on 31 December 2025. Candidates had to be 10th pass and aged 18 to 23 as on 1 January 2026 (born between 2 January 2003 and 1 January 2008). The fee was Rs 100, with women, SC, ST and ex-servicemen exempt.
For women: as reported, 2,020 of the posts were for female candidates.
Status: according to news reports (October 2026), the result was declared on 12 October 2026, with 1,97,408 candidates shortlisted for PET/PST, of whom 15,782 are female. PET/PST dates have not been announced yet. Full details are on our SSC GD page.

SSC MTS and Havaldar
According to news reports (June 2025), the 2025 MTS and Havaldar notice asked for Class 10 passed on or before 1 August 2025. The age limit was 18 to 25 for MTS (born 2 August 2000 to 1 August 2007) and 18 to 27 for Havaldar (born 2 August 1998 to 1 August 2007), as on 1 August 2025. The fee was Rs 100, with women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen exempt. Havaldar candidates also face a physical test (PET/PST).
As reported in March 2026, the CBT for that cycle was actually held from 4 to 15 February 2026, after being moved from September to October 2025.
Next MTS notice: the 2026 notice is reported by job sites as not yet out; not confirmed by the commission, check the official notice. Treat it as awaited and watch ssc.gov.in.
RRB Group D (Railway Level 1)
The official Corrigendum-1 for CEN 09/2025 (dated 7 February 2026, RRB Chennai) shows the age limit as 18 to 33 years and the qualification as "10th pass or ITI or equivalent or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT". In plain words, 10th pass alone is now enough; ITI is no longer compulsory. Some websites still show 18 to 36, but that was the older CEN 08/2024.
According to news reports, CEN 09/2025 has 22,195 posts. The fee was Rs 500 (Rs 400 refunded after appearing in the CBT), or Rs 250 for SC, ST, EBC, female and transgender candidates (refunded after appearing, less bank charges). Pay is Level 1 with a basic of Rs 18,000.
Status: as reported, the CBT ran in August 2026 and the answer key came on 7 September 2026. The result is not declared and is expected around October to November 2026. See our RRB Group D page for the full timeline.
India Post GDS: no exam, merit on Class 10 marks
Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Branch Postmaster (BPM) and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) posts are filled from a system-generated merit list based on Class 10 marks. There is no exam and no interview. Because there is no exam, your Class 10 board marks decide your chances.
According to news reports (January 2026), Schedule-I 2026 had 28,740 posts with age 18 to 40. Pay was Rs 10,000 to 24,470 for GDS/ABPM and Rs 12,000 to 29,380 for BPM. The official GDS portal says the application fee is Rs 100, with female, trans-woman, SC and ST candidates exempt, and that the Department of Posts never calls or texts asking for money.
Status: according to news reports (October 2026), the Schedule-II (July 2026) cycle had 23,757 posts, and its 1st merit list came on 12 October 2026 with 23,469 shortlisted. How to apply safely: step by step
- Find the notice on the official site (ssc.gov.in, rrbapply.gov.in, the India Post GDS portal or joinindianarmy.nic.in).
- Check the age cut-off date and your exact age on that date.
- Check the qualification wording, for example "passed on or before" a date.
- Keep your Class 10 marksheet, ID proof, category certificate, photo and signature ready.
- Register (SSC needs One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in) and fill the form carefully.
- Pay the fee only on the official portal, if you are not exempt.
- Save the final application PDF and payment receipt.
