Who recruits anganwadi workers in Bihar

Anganwadi recruitment in Bihar is handled by the Women and Child Development (ICDS) Directorate under the Social Welfare Department. Its official site is icdsbih.gov.in. We could not open it during our checks, so we cannot confirm its menu labels.

The actual vacancies are filled by the District Programme Office (DPO, ICDS) of each district. Each vacancy belongs to a particular anganwadi centre in a ward or panchayat. That is why notices appear district by district and often list vacancies centre by centre.

In recent years district offices have taken applications online through a district portal. For example, ICDS Patna used an online vacancy portal in November 2024, as reported by job sites; this is not confirmed by the department, so check the notice from your own district.

Anganwadi Sevika and Sahayika honorarium (salary) in Bihar

Anganwadi workers get an honorarium (मानदेय), not a regular government salary. According to news reports from All India Radio (September 2025), the Bihar cabinet raised it as follows:

Some videos and job sites quote other figures. The numbers above are the latest reported state decision. If a district notice states a different amount, the notice and any later government order take priority.

Eligibility seen in recent district notices

The points below come from district notices summarised by job sites between November 2024 and August 2026. They are reported by job sites and not confirmed by the department. The 2026 selection guidelines may change some of them, so always check the official notice for your district.

• Women only, and a resident of the ward or centre area. A residence certificate is required.
• Sevika: Intermediate (12th) pass.
• Sahayika: Matric (10th) pass is commonly cited, but sources conflict, and some say 8th pass. Check the notice.
• Age: 18 to 35 years on the date of the advertisement. Service is reported to continue up to age 65.
• Reservation: follows the election reservation category of the ward or panchayat where the centre is.

How selection works: merit, not a written exam

According to district notices summarised by job sites (not confirmed by the department), there is no written exam for Sevika and Sahayika posts. Selection is usually done like this:

1. The district publishes vacancies for specific centres.
2. Eligible women from that ward or area apply, online or as the notice says.
3. A merit list is made from academic marks.
4. Shortlisted applicants go through document verification.
5. Final selection is announced for each centre.

Because merit depends on marks, keep your marksheets, residence certificate, caste certificate (if you claim reservation) and ID ready before the notice comes. The 2026 guidelines may change this method, so read them when your district publishes the notice.

How many posts in 2026, and what is still unknown

News reports (Indian Masterminds, 30 July 2026; APAC News, 31 July 2026) say the cabinet approved more than 22,000 Sevika and Sahayika posts. A split of 6,141 Sevika and 16,750 Sahayika posts (22,891 in total) is reported by job sites; this is not confirmed by the department, so check the official notice.

What is not known as of 15 October 2026:

• When each district will publish its notice.
• The application dates and the exact application portal for 2026.
• Whether the 2026 guidelines change eligibility or the merit formula.
• The number of vacancies in your district or ward.

Any site that shows a "last date" for a statewide Bihar anganwadi form right now is not quoting an official notice we could find.

Anganwadi Lady Supervisor (Mahila Paryavekshika) vacancy

Lady Supervisor posts are filled by district ICDS offices on contract, from serving Sevikas. They are not open to fresh candidates.

One example, reported by a job site and not confirmed by the department: ICDS Kaimur advertised 11 Lady Supervisor posts in 2026, with a notice dated 19 September 2026 and online applications from 8 October to 7 November 2026. The reported conditions were Matric pass, at least 10 years of service as a Sevika, age 21 to 45 with relaxation, and merit based on service, awards and education. If you are a serving Sevika in Kaimur, confirm these details with the DPO office or the district notice.

How to find and check a genuine district notice

Anganwadi recruitment attracts fake forms because it is local and many applicants are first-time job seekers. Use these checks:

• Look for the notice on your district's official website or the ICDS site, or ask at the District Programme Office (ICDS).
• A real notice names the district, the centres, the application method and the dates. It is issued by the DPO (ICDS).
• Nobody can "guarantee" selection, because it is merit based. Do not pay agents.
• Do not share OTP, Aadhaar or bank details with callers who promise a post.
